In the category ‘Best Hip Hop’ the following artists
are nominated and you can influence who’s gonna win. Vote for your favorite hip
hop artist now.
Eminem – International rap superstar Eminem is one of
the world’s best-selling artists. He has
collected 11 EMAs – a record for any artist. He has sold more than 80 million albums internationally. Eminem won 11 Grammys,
an Oscar (for Best Song, from the autobiographical film 8 Mile), and a
whopping 11 EMAs. His latest album, Recovery, became his sixth
consecutive number-one album in the U.S. and charted at number one in several
other countries. It was the best-selling album of 2010 worldwide, and won the
Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
Jay-Z &
Kanye West – Jay-Z has sold about 50 million albums worldwide and received 13
Grammy Awards. He holds the record for most solo number one albums on the
Billboard Top 200. He’s a successful entrepreneur who regularly ranks high on
lists of power players. And success hasn’t made the Brooklyn-born MC lose his
edge musically: His 2009 track ‘Empire State of Mind’, with Alicia Keys, was an
instant classic that became the unofficial anthem of New York City.
Kanye West won the Ultimate Urban EMA in 2008 and the Best Hip-Hop EMA in 2006.
His most recent solo release is 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,
and he made a cameo at that year’s EMAs onstage with 30 Seconds to Mars. His
collaboration with fellow hip-hop superstar Jay-Z, Watch the Throne,
dropped in August 2011 to much fan anticipation and critical acclaim; digital
sales for its first week were the highest ever for a rap album.
Lil Wayne - He’s
one of the most respected rappers in the game. Lil’ Wayne got his start with
the Cash Money Records crew, teaming up with rappers like Juvenile. His first
solo album, The Block Is Hot, dropped in 1999, and his star has
continued to rise since then. With 2008’s Tha Carter III, he became a
bona fide superstar, selling a million albums in a week and garnering four
Grammys, including Best Rap Album.
Lil’ Wayne won the Artists’ Choice EMA in 2008. In 2010, the prolific artist
released a rock-influenced album, Rebirth, as well as the album I Am
Not a Human Being. And after performing at the 2011 VMAs, he released
another album, Tha Carter IV.
Pitbull – He really
hit big in 2011 with one of the smash hits of the year, his track ‘Give Me
Everything’. The single, featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack, and Nayer, has sold 4
million units worldwide, and reached number one in nine countries. Pitbull,
Ne-Yo, and Nayer performed the track at the 2011 VMAs.
Snoop Dogg - It’s his natural appeal to both the hood and to Hollywood that has
allowed Snoop Dogg to stay tremendously relevant through an almost 20-year-long
career that has included rap, movies, TV, and a reality show. Since bursting
into our collective consciousness alongside famed producer Dr. Dre on the 1992
classic The Chronic, Snoop has remained a constant force in hip-hop and
a household name around the world.
The rapper from Long Beach, California, released his debut disc Doggystyle
in 1993 and saw it debut at number one, moving nearly a million copies its
first week. He won the 2005 EMAs for Best Male Act and Best Song, and the 2010
EMA for Best Hip-Hop—as well as sharing Best Video honours with Katy Perry for
‘California Gurls,’ on which his distinctive flow is featured.
